The Pradhan Mantri lPG Panchayat was launched nationally by Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Saturday. Aimed in lines with the vision of government of India to eradicate energy poverty and providing clean fuel for cooking for economic empowerment of the households, the ministry started giving gas connections to poor people in rural areas under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) since May 2016. Since then more than three crore beneficiaries have taken advantage of the scheme across 710 districts. The idea of lPG panchayats is a step further to make people use the lPG gas without any reluctance. lPG Panchayat is an interactive platform to discuss about safe and sustainable usage of lPG, its benefits and the linkage between use of clean fuel for cooking and women empowerment.
