A 23-year-old security guard died and another suffered severe injuries when a speeding truck rammed into the guards’ room at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance around 5 AM on Saturday, said police.
The deceased, identified as Sandeep Kumar, and the injured, Arjun (25), were employed as security guards by the AIIMS and were on night duty, deployed at the AIIMS entrance in South Extension area, police said.
The two guards were rushed to the Trauma Centre, where Kumar was declared brought dead and the other guard, Arjun (25), was admitted with severe injuries, the official added.
Kumar — a native of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh and who lived with his elder brother Ram, who rushed to the spot immediately — had joined duty earlier this month and was about to get married in December.
The errant driver fled the spot after the incident. The vehicle, however, has been tracked by police and a team is searching the potential whereabouts of the accused.
Eyewitnesses told police that the dumper belonged to Rajasthan as shown by its registration number.
“We have sent teams to the State to trace the dumper and the Rajasthan Police has also been informed about the incident and their assistance has been sought in identifying the vehicle,” a police officer said.
“Police have registered a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence. Investigation is underway,” the official added.
