The Delhi Government has formed an 11-member Specification Committee for its much-awaited project of providing free wi-fi facility at public places across the city.

Providing free wi-fi facility at public places was one of the key poll promises of the Aam Aadmi Party government which came in power in 2015.The 11 member committee will have representatives from Delhi Police, Public Works Department (PWD), members from Department of Power, Home and IT departments.

"Keeping in view of specialized nature of the wi-fi project which requires the inputs of various stakeholders from the field, the Public Works Department (PWD) constituted a Specification Committee for the wi-fi project in Delhi," reads an order issued by Delhi Government.

A total budget of hundred crore has been allocated to the project by the Delhi Government in the 2018-19. However, a pilot project launched by the government in 2016 to provide free Wi-Fi was failed.
