Aggrieved over his family’s financial dire straits, an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteer on Saturday committed suicide in North-East Delhi’s Jafrabad area. The incident took place at around 8.30 am when the deceased, identified as Arvind Malik (20), a resident of Jafrabad, fired at the right side of his temple with a pistol.
Police are investigating the matter and trying to ascertain why he took the drastic step. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. “We are deeply saddened to hear that Arvind Malik, our active volunteer from Jafrabad, has committed suicide. We understand that he took this extreme step due to a family problem,” read a statement issued by AAP.
“We are very sad that he chose this extreme step that has crushed all of us who cared deeply for him. This morning he shot himself using a weapon belonging to a family member,” the statement further read. “He was rushed to GTB Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. No suicide note was recovered from his possession. However, initial probe revealed he took the extreme step due to a family issue. We are investigating the case and questioning his family and friends,” a senior police official said.
