ED sends notice to 15 Trinamool leaders

In what could come in as a big embarrassment for the Trinamool Government before the elections, the Enforcement Directorate now probing the multi-crore Saradha scam has issued notice to 15 people including half-a-dozen Trinamool leaders some of them MPs, Ministers and lok Sabha candidates to appear before it before April 25, sources said adding the Department had got enough leads and documents that could prove a link between the ponzy fund group and some people in power.

The investigating officials however refused to comment on record. Saradha chief Sudipto Sen’s son and second wife were arrested by the ED on Wednesday and were currently put under intense grilling, sources said adding following leads from the duo the ED sleuths on Saturday raided a couple of banks recovering important documents.

Curiously the stated high-profile Minister whose name has been doing the rounds for the past one year or so for his involvement in the scam refused to speak saying “I will not speak as this are election time.”

Meanwhile, the ED reportedly refused the lawyer of Sudipto Sen to meet his wife and son on Saturday. The lawyer had gone to meet the duo reportedly at the instance of Sen who had fallen ill since their arrests and had been under counselling.

Incidentally rebel Trinamool MP-cum-journalist Kunal Ghosh was currently in jail apparently for revolting against the State Government for “making me a scapegoat in the scam” had earlier wondered as to why the police were not arresting the wife and son of Sen.

The first wife of the scam mastermind was still absconding and the ED was in the lookout for her. Meanwhile sources said that the ED was moving the court to seek the custody of Sen in order make further investigation into the case.

The Supreme Court which was currently hearing a PIl demanding CBI probe into the scam had raised serious questions regarding the lackadaisical probe done by the State police. It had asked as to why the investigating agencies had failed to trace the thousands of crores of rupees that were cheated.
