A 24-year-old Delhi University student has accused a youth of allegedly raping her on pretext of marriage in south-east Delhi’s Govindpuri area.

The 25-year-old youth has been detained by the police for questioning. He lives in a rented accommodation in Kapashedra Border area. He is currently unemployed while the girl is a student of a Delhi University women’s college.

According to the girl’s statement, she came in contact with the youth since 2013. He used to visit his relative who lived in another flat in the same building where she lived with her family in Tughlakabad Extension area of Govindpuri.

“As both of them hailed from Kerala, they became friends. The friendship soon turned into an affair and they started meeting frequently. In October 2013, the accused took the girl to his place where he allegedly established physical relationship with her and repeated the act in February 2014 at his friend’s house,” said a police official quoting the girl’s statement.

The girl has claimed that the youth had promised to marry her and even taken money and jewellery from him on this pretext. As the girl felt that the youth was not in the mood of keeping his promise, she approached Govindpuri police station in south-east Delhi and filed a complaint against him of rape.

Police recorded the girl’s statement and she was sent for the medical examination to confirm the sexual assault. The youth was picked up from his residence for questioning. Further investigations are on, police said.
