With the arrest of six people, including two juveniles, the Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have solved the double murder of a security guard and his brother at Delhi United Christian Senior Secondary School near Raj Niwas in Civil lines area. The accused were arrested following a joint investigation conducted by the Special Cell and local police. The arrested Pawan Kumar, alias Aakash, who was the mastermind behind the murder, faces more than 10 other criminal cases. While other accused Chanderpal faces 14 cases; Tinku, alias Anda Puchi and Daud Khan, both face two cases each. They were apprehended from Khajoori Khas and Timarpur areas.
One of the juveniles is an ex-student of the school, who knew the topography and gave the lead to others about the possible whereabouts of money and valuables in the school Principal’s office. The four accused are involved in previous robberies and theft cases in North and North-West districts. Police said they are verifying the involvements of juveniles in other cases also.
The two brothers — Sunil Kumar and Anil — were bludgeoned in the school premises when they were sleeping on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Their hands were tied with a rope and injuries marks were prominent on their heads. Their bodies were spotted on Wednesday morning.
Joint Commissioner of Police Vivek Gogia said that around 1 am, all the six accused gathered near ISBT Kashmere Gate in search of a possible target. “They discussed shortage of money and planned a robbery at the Delhi United Christian Senior Secondary School. One of the apprehended juveniles suggested that they can get a good sum of money by burgling the cash chest located in the principal’s office of this school. This juvenile had been associated with the school in past and knew its topography,” said Gogia.
On the suggestion of the juvenile, they entered the school compound climbing its backside wall; they also broke two steel pipes of waterline before carrying out the burglary. They saw Sunil and Anil sleeping on two separate cots near the Principal’s office. “In order to execute their plan smoothly, they opted to wait for a couple of minutes but one of the deceased woke up,” said Gogia.
The victims were brutally attacked till they slumped in the pool of blood. After tying the hands and feet of the victims with available fan wires, the accused then stole their mobile phones, burgled the cash chest by breaking into the Principal’s chamber and made their escape.
Joint Commissioner of Police SK Gautam said that they were verifying the involvement of the juveniles.
