In a clear indication that the electoral dogfight between the BJP and the Trinamool Congress was becoming fiercer with every phase of polling, Narendra Modi on Saturday returned to Bengal with added venom assuring the people that in his second stint as the Prime Minister he would take account of Mamata Banerjee for her alleged misdeeds.
In his third mass rally of the month in Bengal the Prime Minister told an election crowd at Buniyadpur in Balurghat parliamentary constituency that the Chief Minister’s time was over and “she will have to account for the gruesome rule she perpetrated in the State for the last several years.”
History would never forgive her for her misdeeds, Modi said, adding, “you had reposed full faith in her before bringing her to power by ending the tormenting CPI(M) regime. But what she did after coming to the power was disheartening. She broke your faith and ditched the Maa Maati and Maanush in the name of who she roared to victory.”
The Prime Minister said “even I was taken in by her austere lifestyle — when I saw her in the television — thinking here was a person who had the genuine intent to stand by the people and end their trouble. But she turned out to be the opposite of what she pretended to be.”
After becoming the Prime Minister, “I could see the real face” hidden behind the veneer of that fabricated unpretentiousness, Modi said adding, “When I saw the real person my head reeled and I was taken aback.”
But like Modi the people were also deceived by her pretense, the Prime Minister said adding “the voters of Bengal in particular and the people of India in general had now understood the real person behind the face of simplicity. The people have now known her and decided to get rid of her.”
The first two phase of elections had already shown that “Bengal is going to see a big thing in the coming days when the speed-breaker of a Chief Minister will be thrown out of power. The way she has applied brakes on the development of Bengal, the way she has stopped the central projects from reaching the people of the State the people will apply brakes on her continuation in power,” the Prime Minister said.
“The reports on the earlier phases of polling have applied brakes on her sleep and she is losing sleep. She knows that she is on her way out and so she is trying desperately to create much hue and cry,” Modi said.
In an apparent message to the Hindu voters — that was promptly read by the psephologists as a ploy to wean away the Left vote bank in BJP’s favour — the Prime Minister said “Didi’s vote bank politics highlighted by mollification of one set of people depriving others will come to an end and she will have to explain all her misdeeds after going from power.”
Apparently working towards collecting all the anti-Mamata Banerjee votes in one basket by stoking the fire of dislike against the TMC chief, the Prime Minister vowed “this Chowkidar of yours will take account of all the Didi’s misdeeds. I will not let her go free. She will have to account for whatever she has done in the several years of rule.”
