Delectable delight

Theos in Noida has won the 2017 Times Food Guide Award for the third time and hence makes for a must visit, says SHAlINI SAKSENA

Delhiites love to eat out — whether it is on weekdays or weekends. The denizens also have a sweet tooth. So if there is a place that offers great food and even better desserts, one couldn’t ask for more.

The only catch here is that one will have to make a trip to Sector 41 in Noida.  Most would balk at travelling from Delhi to the NCR given the chaotic traffic. But, once you dig into the food placed before you, it will be worth the hassle. The cafe Theos gets its name from the scientific name Theobroma Cocoa of the tree from which cocoa is obtained. It is a Greek word which means ‘Food for the Gods’.

“Chocolate is considered to be the purest form of food and the Greeks believed that it was fit for Gods, hence the name. For us, customer is God and what we serve is made with a lot of care, love and straight from the heart,” Chef Gaurav Wadhwa says.

The Noida outlet is the only one in Delhi-NCR to offer a cafe lounge and a patisserie though there are patisseries in Sector 50 and DlF Mall of India.

But here is some good news for those in Delhi. Wadhwa is all set to open a patisserie in   Sangam Courtyard, RK Puram.

The reason why he is not going for a cafe lounge is, he doesn’t believe in opening outlet after outlet and losing control over the food standards he has set.

“When you open more  outlets, you lose control over a lot of things. I am very rigid when it comes to certain things. For example, if the cook feels that there is need to add even 1 gm of salt to a dish, he can’t take the decision on his own. He has to come to me. We will revisit the dish and only if required will the extra salt be introduced,” Wadhwa says.

That each dish has been made taking into consideration so much effort shows. The peri peri chicken and chicken in red wine are cooked to perfection as is the chicken ceasar salad. Since, Delhiites love large portions, the dish is not going to disappoint anybody. In fact, it will be a miracle if you manage to eat a single main dish on your own. A word of advice — share, and then you can try more from the menu.

Also, interestingly, the wine is non-alcoholic and so is the beer. In fact, the menu has quite a few options for teetotallers. But if you like your beer, you must stay away from this beverage.

No meal is complete without dessert. The baked blueberry cheesecake is sure to satiate your sweetthooth and leave you craving for a return trip.
