Priyanka Sharma

Maruti Suzuki India limited (MSIl) in collaboration with Waterlife India has set up a water ATM in Kasan village in Manesar, Haryana under corporate social responsibility (CSR). This is the first water ATM installed by MSIl in Haryana. It is noted that over the years the residents of Kasan village have been dependent on borewell for drinking water.

According to locals, impure borewell water was a major cause of water-borne diseases among residents, especially children. Total population of the village is over 30,000.

“The newly-launched water ATM is a great relief to the people here, especially for the homemakers who were dependent on private water tanker for the daily needs,” said Sharada Devi, 55, a resident of Kasan village.

A satisfied resident of the area Nirmala, said, “Ever since I came to the village three years ago, I had arranged for the drinking water from the organisation where I work. Now, with the start of water ATM, I can get the drinking water at door step.”

Speaking to The Pioneer, RS Kalsi, ED, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Maruti Suzuki’s CSR projects work to address community needs. As informed by the panchayat of the village, the people of Kasan village were struggling to fulfil the need of safe and portable drinking water. Therefore, Maruti Suzuki took the initiative to reduce the water woes of the people.”

The water ATM produces 1,000 litre of water per hour with a total dissolved solids (TDS) treatment capacity of 5,000 parts per million (ppm). The water ATM has a 10 stage water filtration process giving safe and clean drinking water as per World Health Organisation (WHO) and ISI  standards with minimal water rejection.

For the successful implementation, village panchayat has provided the land, raw water and electricity to run the water ATM. Water is being provided at a very nominal rate Rs7 for 20 litre of normal water and Rs30 for 20 litres of chilled water.
