Courage, a must-have quality

Ajit Kumar Bishnoi

It will be a shame if we are not courageous, endowed as we are with higher intelligence, writes AJIT KUMAR BISHNOI

We can all agree that this world is a tough place in which to keep one’s head above water is an onerous task. One must have many qualities to be able to live a meaningful life, in which courage is an important one.

The following facts will bear me out. One will not need an artificial wall around oneself for protection. What are these artificial wallsIJ One takes shelter of a powerful person. What does this powerful person doIJ He will use this man and when he has no use for him, he will ditch him. What did this person do by compromising self for such supportIJ The control was with the powerful person, not with the dependent person.

Persons, who lack courage, disgrace themselves by becoming pathetic in front of others. And in this material world, practically everyone is struggling. Who has any spare capacity to sympathise with othersIJ On the other hand, a person who is courageous is unlikely to suffer from mental diseases because mostly fears, anxieties, etc are behind it.

Rather a courageous person will have self-respect. Such a person will take the right decisions; he is unlikely to be influenced by negative emotions or possibilities. Courageous persons are likely to reach their potential.

Such persons have compassion for others because they can empathise with what everyone is going through. Courageous persons are respected by others because this quality is not so common. Obviously, the quality of life of such persons is expected to be high. And family members of persons with courage benefit in many ways.

If having the quality of courage is that important, how does one inculcate it in oneselfIJ The first and foremost way is to develop faith in God because God is omnipotent. If one is connected with God, there are no limitations. And connection with God can be made by doing spiritual practices like meditation. This is not difficult; it only requires sustained efforts.

These spiritual practices lead to strong willpower. Because, again,

God is there to boost it. Faithful

persons do possess strong willpower. Then comes spiritual knowledge on top of material knowledge. By becoming truly knowledgeable or aware, the quality of courage gets enhanced because one can see the reality and is not fearful of the unknown.

Material attachments weaken us. Therefore, they should be given up. let us not forget that we are spirit souls and have only temporary connections with material objects. And we are presently in the human species. It will be a shame if we are not courageous, endowed as we are with higher intelligence.

Similarly, one should give up faint-heartedness. It does not reflect well on a human being. There are unlimited possibilities open to human beings. Why should one not be courageousIJ

Possessing many skills helps a lot in being courageous; one will be able to manage in most circumstances. Good habits really contribute to being courageous because these directly affect the physical and mental health; their soundness contribute to the quality of courage.

Additionally, the company of brave persons helps a lot as does good guidance and support from family members and friends. let me conclude by stating that the quality of courage, if possessed, will help in meeting challenges in life successfully, and we all realise that these will always be there.
