Congress terms NDA's Pak policy an 'international joke'

PNS

The Congress on Saturday critised the NDA Government for a “directionless” Pakistan policy and called it an “international joke”. The Opposition party’s attack comes at a time when hostilities at the loC and international border have escalated after fresh round of ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

“There have been more than 800 ceasefire violations. At least a dozen soldiers have lost their lives and 18 civilians have been killed since the time BJP came to power, but Modi has ignored all these sacrifices to register his so-called victory in the context of Pakistan policy,” said Congress spokesman RPN Singh.

“The Prime Minister must clearly spell out what India has achieved by this so-called joint statement with Pakistan at Ufa... Pakistan has continued to backstab us in the last 15 months. Our High Commissioner was summoned in Islamabad, on a pretext of a Chinese drone being shot allegedly by the Pakistan military, which has caused much heart burn at the domestic level. PM needs to tell the country whether NSA level dialogue will still go on, whether the dialogue between DGMO will proceed,” Singh added.

The Congress also critised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “prompt” acceptance of Pakistan premier Nawaz Sharif’s invitation to visit Islamabad. Singh said PM must explain to the nation what was the “tearing hurry” in taking the decision as Pakistan has not taken any action against the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

In this regard Singh mentioned that former PM Dr Manmohan Singh had not visited Pakistan even once in his ten-year long tenure. “The BJP with all its rhetoric on nationalism is failing to handle Jammu and Kashmir day by day and has adopted a completely directionless and embarrassing policy towards dealing with Pakistan,” he remarked.

Singh also attacked BJP for its inability to have a control in Jammu and Kashmir where Pakistani and ISIS flags were raised by protesters in Srinagar and Anantnag on Saturday. “The same incident happened in Srinagar yesterday, when the Prime Minister was in Jammu,” he said. Demanding strong action against such miscreants, the Congress leader said, “Any attempt to legitimise their cause by the state will expose the soft approach by the Modi Government towards such militants, who cannot be called Kashmiris.”

“It’s time Prime Minister Narendra Modi walks the talk, lest one is forced to assume that the BJP is complicit in these anti national acts. These incidents prima-facie reflects the gross intelligence failure by the State Government and the Centre as they were found to be unaware of such nuisance. The prime responsibility of maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir first lies with the BJP-PDP state government and then the Centre. This is not the first time Pak flags and ISIS are being raised in the valley, in the last 15 months of the Modi Government. The release of terrorist Masarat Alam also resulted in the same.
