'Cong has become burden for people'

Nishu Mahajan

Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress on Saturday and said that its  slogan is ‘Mar Jawan Mar Kisan’ instead of former Prime Minister lal Bahadur Shastri’s famous slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.’

Coming down heavily on the Congress, Modi said that the Congress has been neglecting the farmers and soldiers of the country.“The Congress has become a burden for the countrymen. And, the ensuing lok Sabha polls will see Congress-mukt Bharat,” said Modi, while claiming that the ‘winds of change’ were palpable across the nation.

In his about 60-minutes speech at ‘Bharat Vijay Rally’ in Chandigarh on Saturday, Modi blamed the Congress Government for price rise, corruption, mis-governance and unemployment in the country.

Calling himself the future Prime Minister of India, he said that the bad days will end soon. People had fought for Swaraj (self-rule) and a British-free India earlier. Today, people have to fight for good governance and Congress Mukt Bharat (Congress-free India).

Expressing his displeasure at Pakistan Prime Minister’s visit to India after Indian soldiers were beheaded, Modi said, “Those who safeguard the nation are not safe. Today, soldiers are being beheaded and their heads are taken away (by Pakistani Army) but our Prime Minister failed to act strongly against the neighboring country.

Accusing the Congress for its soft stand on Pakistan, Modi said, “Instead, a ‘Biryani diplomacy’ was adopted by the Congress and the Pakistani Prime Minister was welcomed in India after the incident and was served Chicken Biryani and other delicacies here.”

Calling Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi a shahzada (prince), Modi continued his attack on the Congress scion during his speech and termed his promises as a ‘bundle of lies’.During his address, Modi drew more cheers whenever he referred Rahul as Shahzada.Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi over his ‘exclusionary ideology’ remarks, Modi said, “I am proud of my ideology which is based on sacrifice and service for the country. Our ideology is that family is above country and mother India is everything for us. Our ideology is to live and die for the country.”

He kept up the attack as he spoke about the issue of secularism raised by the Congress against him. “Congress knows its future after May 16. They have only one issue to raise and it is secularism. Ask them about corruption, price rise or any other issue, they will raise the secularism issue, only to hide their failures in the past 60 years.” “Congress only wants that Modi should not become Prime Minister of this country and hence, they have been trying to find solution to their ‘Modi problem,’ whereas Modi is only thinking about finding solutions to problems of unemployment, poverty, woman safety, corruption in the country,” said Modi, while adding that the Congress is scared as they have been challenged by a tea-seller this time.

Amid the chanting of slogans, Narendra Modi Zindabad, Abki baar, Modi sarkar, Modi repeatedly asked questions about the UPA’s performance from the crowds.

Making an appeal to over 20,000 people gathered to listen him, Modi said, “You have given 60 years to the Congress, now give 60 months to me. I will work like a Sewak. This time, do not give power in the hands of corrupt forces that have looted the country in last 60 years,” said Modi while concluding his speech.
