Commerce dept raises concern

SR

After the approval for new four-year undergraduate programme, DU Commerce Teachers Forum expressed its apprehension that newly formed syllabus and consolidation of seats will affect a huge number of aspirants and teachers.

“Under the new four-year programme, process of redistribution and reallocation of seats among various courses will harm prospects of those students who wish to study commerce to get a wider understanding and deep insight into the stream. The commerce strength in most colleges is going to be reduced about 50 to 60 per cent. If this policy is followed by other colleges as well then the students wishing to opt for commerce stream will be in great problem,” underlined Parkash Vir Khatri, the convenor of DUCTF. Students opt for commerce courses, considering market demands.      SR

DU in general have aspirants for commerce course and cut-off percentage from BCom is also high in most colleges.Sharing the concerns about students who will have difficulty in getting admission in this stream, Khatri also stated that this will also involve the reduction in the OBC seats.

“The parents are also worried. They are apprehensive if their wards will be able to get admission or not. If the seats are reduced to 60 per cent what will be the state like in the coming days. There is also apprehension that those seats which have been enhanced under the introduction of OBC quota in DU will also be cut resulting into great loss to the OBC students who wish to get higher education from DU,” he added.
