Colour it right

SANGEETA YADAV

Not every hair colour is ammonia-free, says Sangeeta Yadav

Unfortunately, more and more youngsters are faced with the embarrassing problem of grey hair. Since there is no permanent solution to this problem, people are looking for a colour that will dye without harming the hair.

“One needs to be very careful while picking up a hair colour. There are many reasons for graying of hair at younger age. It could be genetic according to different age groups, impact of eating habit, stressful lifestyle, population and allergies. Proper balanced diet is very important for maintaining hair health. It's true that hair is made up of proteins but vitamins and minerals also plays an important role in keeping it healthy and giving it that perfect bounce. Stress and sickness also leads to loosening up of hair so be happy,” Maria Castan, scientific communication expert of Wella Professionals, says.

She tells you that the colours used for various hairstyles can be easily picked by ordinary people in their day-to-day life. It is not rocket science. But she warns you against products that claim to be ammonia free.

“Some hair colours, at times referred as “no-ammonia” often use another alkalizer called MEA (Methyleicosanoic acid) instead of using ammonia. MEA is not new technology which even though doesn’t smell, can be worse for your hair,” Castan says while introducing a technology called Triluxiv that provides hair protection by retaining the colour for longer period of time and protects hair against damage.

According to Agnes Chen of Streax, the past hairstyles are coming back with a bang. It is easy to copy and maintain. Only thing one needs to keep in mind is that they have got the right brush.
