Imagine a brunch where you could indulge in the food while your little ones are well taken care of. They can play atop bouncies, engage in painting and doodling, indulge in simulation play with race cars and also have fun beating the opponent in ice-hockey. All this under the guidance of trained nannies (by the hotel) to take care of the child, feed him, give him freebies — in short, do whatever it takes to keep them happy.
“We wanted to do something different with our brunches. Every reputed hotel in the city boasts of a massive spread, emaculate presentation and unbeatable prices. But I felt there was a dire need to do something about toddlers and young children to make them feel at home as well. We want to impress upon the child so that next time he influences his parents to come visiting again,” executive chef of Courtyard by Marriott, Gurgaon, Ashish Kumar Rout, explains.
He is a veteran food and beverage executive with extensive luxury hotel experience but Rout also has a keen marketing acumen. He tells you how footfall at his restaurants have increased by almost 40 per cent ever since they have started doing things to appease the children.
“It is not just the activities but a lot of innovation goes into their food as well. We have a separate spread for our little guests and try to do things differently. So, we have a Doremon burger, pizza rolled out as some or the other cartoon character, different types of smileys and non-spicy noodles just the way they like it,” Rout explains.
And what is in there for the parentsIJ From a grill station that can dish out all possible meats, to a sushi and sashmi bar, an Indian section, a continental spread and some authentic cantonese chinese dishes. Not to forget the salad and the tandoor sections where the chef’s expertise is completely tested. “We like to interact with our customers so we have some special windows where they can ask for a particular preparation. And our roll out time is pretty quick too,” chef Rout says proudly.
“There is detailed planning that goes into the menu and presentation of the food. The only concern that I have in this setting is that the place gets too cramped up. We are renovating the dining area to give it more space. Hopefully, then we will have a better display,” Rout says as he treats you to some mouthwatering kebabs from the spread. Indian might be his forte, but Rout has able help pouring in from all quarters.
For the Easter special brunch at the Courtyard By Marriot for instance, his pastry chef helped in bringing out the child in everyone. From Easter eggs to bunnies and candies, there was a lot on offer. Must sample the yummy brunch priced modestly at Rs 1650 plus taxes.
