BTAD tense after four abducted

Tension prevailed in the troubled Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD) region in Assam after cadre of the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) militants abducted four persons in Assam’s Baksa district last night.

Police said that the incident took place at a remote labdangguri area in the district last night. “A group of farmers, who were returning from a market in Salbari subdivision in the district last night did not return home. There were seven persons in the group. While three of them returned the other four did not,” police said on Saturday. Police intensified operations in and around the area and later recovered the four bicycles of the farmers.

“The militants seem to have abducted the four farmers and we suspect the hands of NDFB anti-talk faction behind this,” Assam Director General of Police Khagen Sarma said while adding that Army and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan had also been engaged to assist the State police in search operation.

It may be mentioned here that the four districts of BTAD that includes Kokrajhar, Baksa, Chirang and Udalguri had been witnessing extortion and abduction for past several months due to the NDFB's anti-talk faction militants.
