In an exemplary moral courage, an engineering student married his girlfriend who was gang-raped by three anti-socials under Baunsi police station area of Banka district in Bihar.
The 22-year-old girl was gang-raped before her boyfriend, who was also badly beaten by rapists. Undeterred by the incident, the boy went ahead with his marriage plan and married the rape victim at a temple at Baunsi, confirmed a police officer.
A large number of people attended the marriage function and showered praise on the engineering student for marrying the girl, who had suffered one of the worst forms of cruelty only a few days back. Though the police did not involve themselves in arranging the marriage, they initiated immediate steps to bring all culprits to justice.
Banka Superintendent of Police Pushkar Anand told The Pioneer that two out of three accused had already been nabbed. An intensive search operation was on to nab the third rapist. The police have also plans to appeal to the court to fast track the case so that culprits can be awarded punishment in 15 days only.
Sub Inspector of Police at Baunsi police station Dhirendra Kumar said, “We will file the chargesheet against the accused in the competent court very soon”.
Parents of both bridegroom and bride readily agreed to the marriage and participated in the ceremony with their relatives, sources added. Before their marriage at the temple, they also married in a court on the basis of an affidavit.
Sources said that the rape incident took place when both boy and girl had gone to Mandar Hills in Banka district on a trip and they reportedly asked a group of shepherd for direction. Instead both of them were taken to a secluded place where the girl was gang-raped and the boy was badly beaten.
According to the Hindu mythology, Mandar Hills were used by Gods to churn the ocean in “Samudra Manthan” to obtain the elixir that would ultimately grant immortality and the place is quite popular among tourists.
