Bose kin to meet Modi, seek declassification of data

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s descendents would not let go the Nehruvian politicians easily for the “insult” they heaped “not only on the Bose family but the whole lot of freedom fighters” by spying on two of his nephews Amiyanath Bose and Dr Sisir Bose for two decades allegedly at the instance of Jawaharlal Nehru himself. “We will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi” and demand from the Government led by him to nullify the wrong done against the Bose family and immediately declassify all the classified documents, so that the people of the country may know about the real motive behind India’s biggest ever Snoopgate drama.

Surya Bose, the grandnephew of Netaji, was likely to meet Modi in Germany, said his brother Chandra Bose. Both are the sons of Amiyanath Bose a barrister-turned-Forward Bloc MP and one of the subject matters of New Delhi’s surveillance. Open Platform for Netaji a Kolkata-based organisation had “sought an appointment from the Prime Minister who is currently not in India and has been told by the PMO that our appointment will be considered when he returns,” said Chandra Bose.

In the meantime, “my brother Surya Bose who is posted in Hamburg in Germany… will see the Prime Minister and raise the demand of the people that all classified documents be declassified as the nation will like to know why and on what circumstances Bose family’s privacy was encroached on. This was a great injustice done towards Netaji,” his grandnephew said. He informed how the descendents of one of the greatest sons of India were subjected to most nefarious kind of surveillance saying even mysterious people in Germany supposedly belonging to the RAW were sent to keep vigil on the lectures delivered by the junior Boses.

Another descendent of the family Sugato Bose a historian and Trinamool Congress MP rued the bad taste of some leaders at whose instance the letters written by “Netaji’s wife to his nephews were opened by the police and read before allowing them to be handed over” to their addressees. “This was perhaps a outcome of an apprehension about a challenge from a parallel ideology that Netaji stood for,” Sugato Bose earlier said, adding, “this is not only an insult to the Bose family but to the whole generation of freedom fighters.” Former MP Krishna Bose said, “I was in a state of shock when I came to know about how a freedom fighter like my husband was put under surveillance like this. This is shameful and the perpetrators of this owe an apology to the nation.”

She is the mother of Sugato Bose and wife of Sisir Bose — who was also in Nehru’s surveillance list and who drove Netaji in 1940 to Gomoh Railway Station from where he staged his legendary flight to Germany. Meanwhile, Forward Bloc general secretary Debabrata Biswas also demanded the declassification of Netaji files saying his party would start and all-India movement if such a step was not taken immediately.

“The manner in which Nehru handled the issue of Netaji’s disappearance was always suspicious and mischievous,” adding, the story on his death in a plane crash was nothing but part of a bigger “conspiracy.” It was unfortunate that the “Modi Government has done nothing in this direction,” he said adding even “the first NDA Government did not make available many classified documents even after appointing the Mukherjee Commission.”
