With cases of crime against women on the rise, the BJP has launched a technology application Raksha to help provide security to women.

The application that can be used on all Android mobile phones was launched at the party headquarters on Friday by the BJP general secretary JP Nadda who hoped it will help reduce crimes against women. The BJP spokesperson Meenakshi lekhi, who has conceptualised the application, said women after downloading Raksha app on their phones can with a press of button alert their close ones about their whereabouts in case of an emergency.

“Your selected contacts can see your location and you can even ask them to show theirs. A distress signal just by pressing a single key sends out a loud buzzer to your near and dear ones,” lekhi said. She said Indian women are a symbol of power and knowledge and all they need is a secure environment to grow. “In recognition of our cultural ethos, the BJP has decided to launch this application as a step towards women’s safety and security named as Raksha,” lekhi said. She said even if the Rakhsa app is switched off, it can send distress signals by holding down the volume key for three seconds to specific contacts you have chosen beforehand, besides sending your exact whereabouts.
