In a horrendous incident, a woman’s hand was allegedly chopped off by three persons in a case of mistaken identity over a sand dispute at Tavarekere near here in Ramanagaram district, a senior police official said on Friday.
“All the three accused are now absconding and a team has been formed to nab the accused — Krishna, Sandeep and the third unidentified person,” Ramanagara Superintendent of Police Chandragupta said. “They have reportedly fled to the neighboring Andhra Pradesh,” he added.
The incident happened on Thursday when the victim’s husband was not at home and the accused barged into the house of the victim with swords, looking for Kumar and Nanje Gowda, who had an argument with the goons over a sand dealing on July 1.
“Kumar and Nanje Gowda are tenants at the house owned by the victim and her husband. Kumar and Nanje Gowda had a dispute with sand traders in the past. On the previous night of the attack, a few rowdies had heated argument with Kumar in the neighborhood. The next evening the same rowdies barged into the home of Mangala Gowri and attacked her and her mother-in-law with swords. They were under the impression that Mangala Gowri belonged to the family of Kumar and Nanje Gowda,” a police officer, who is part of the investigation team, said.
She lost her left hand as she tried to defend herself from the attack, he said.
The victim, Mangala Gowri, is now undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Though the police have surgically joined her severed left hand, which was chopped off, the victim needs to wait for a week to ascertain whether she can regain movement.
The incident has shocked the IT Capital of the nation because the rowdies dared to barge into the house of the victim and slashed her family members with swords.
Victim’s mother-in-law was also assaulted. The victim’s husband also returned home around the same time but he managed to escape from the scene with his 6-year-old daughter.
