Auto-driver 'rapes' German, plaint filed

PNS

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has received a complaint from a teenage German national, who has stated that she was sexually-assaulted by an auto-rickshaw driver in Central Delhi over two months back. The girl claimed that on December 14 last year, she lost her way when and an auto-rickshaw driver offered her lift and raped her. She claimed that the driver again tried to assault her but she shouted for help and he fled from the spot.

The victim then approached the DCW on February 9, through email and recorded her statement.

In her complaint she stated that she had walked out of her hotel room at night and got lost in the alleyways so she asked for directions from an auto-driver. Instead of dropping her to her hotel room, the auto-driver assaulted and raped her in the dark. She somehow managed to escape and later a man dropped her back to hotel. She said she was too scared to go to police to register a complaint.

The commission informed police and medical examination was conducted. DCW claimed that cops didn’t file an FIR immediately and only after DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal issued a notice to the DCP (Central) the FIR was filed.
