After being applauded for her performance as an actor-cum-producer in her short film Chutney, Tisca Chopra is coming with her next project The Hungry, a love-revenge drama based on Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus. Opposite her is none other than the versatile actor Naseeruddin Shah. Speaking about her experience of working with him, Chopra says: “Doing a Shakespeare piece with Naseer is like the cherry on the cake. But it was challenging too. He is my teacher. None of us knows when he prepares for the character he is going to play as he is always well-rehearsed on the sets.”
The recently released trailer gives a glimpse of the role that Chopra essays — Tulsi, a widow on a revenge spree for the murder of her child. The role, she tells you challenged her in many ways “There were certain sequences which stretched me as an actor. I worked hard to adapt to the character. There were times when I didn’t sleep for several nights during the shoot,” she adds. Chopra will be seen in another short film Churi.
A career that began when she was just three, in a play, Chopra made her film debut with Platform (1993), opposite Ajay Devgn. She is in a happy zone with the kind of work she has done thus far. “I am happy about the work I have done. I only did the films I believed in and never compromised on any role. I hope I don’t lose my passion for acting in future,” she tells you, adding that she is busy writing an urban comedy based on how the city lives and families are changing rapidly.
The actor enjoys the varied roles she has done in her journey so far. “Acting is more than a profession. I am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone and do a role where I am not my age. The role doesn’t matter — young, old, fat or thin because this is what an actor suppose to do — give birth to the unseen life. In future I would love to do comedy and biopic movies,” Chopra says.
For her, success is to feel the character that she plays. “I don’t measure my success outwardly as it will always be subjective,” Chopra says whose next film after The Hungry is Bioscopewala.
