The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticised the Centre over the appointment of former cricketer Chetan Chauhan as the the head of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) on Saturday.

In a Press conference at AAP headquarters, party spokesperson Raghav Chaddha said the Narendra Modi Government has sworn that it would “ruin” all the reputed institution of the country, during its term in the Centre.

“... The way, they appointed Gajender Chauhan in FTII and Pahlaj Nihalani at CBFC, same way they have made another absurd appointment of  former cricketer Chetan Chauhan to head the NIFT... He does not know the F of fashion and has no link with this field and they have made him the chairman,” said Chadha.

Chadha alleged that Chauhan shielded Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the DDCA Scam and his appointment at the NIFT is the “reward” for it from the Centre.

“Chauhan is the same guy involved in the DDCA scam... He came forward in shielding Arun Jaitley against the charges of corruption and today in a way he has been rewarded through this appointment,” Chadha added and quoted Chauhan in a news reports highlighting that Modi and BJP Amit Shah were behind his appointment.

“As per NIFT ACT 2006, chairperson would be an eminent academician, scientist or technologist or professional. Can please Modi explain under which of the above does Chauhan’s appointment justifiedIJ What link does chauhan have with fashion worldIJ” Chadha asked.

“This Government rewards sycophants. people who praise and hail Modi day and night are the ones posted in the institutions...,” Chadha said.
