An AAP volunteer was booked for sexually assaulting a woman on the pretext of marrying her in Central Delhi’s Patel Nagar area. The accused, Deepak Chaudhary, is reportedly the president of a block in Patel Nagar area, according to sources. The 28-year-old woman has accused him of sexually assaulting her by offering a cold drink laced with sedatives at his rented accommodation.
Police said they have registered a case of rape against Chaudhary but verifying the charges.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Parmaditya said they are verifying the charges from both the sides. “Though the case is registered but we are verifying the claims and charges from both the sides,” said Parmaditya.
The matter came to fore two weeks ago when a woman (26) approached a local police station and alleged that she was raped by 28-year-old Chaudhary on the pretext of marriage. Police conducted the medical examination of the woman at a hospital and registered a case of rape against Chaudhary on September 10.
According to woman’s written statement, Chaudhary used to rape her on the pretext of marriage but did not marry her. She also said on many occasion he offered her drinks laced with sedatives and forced him on her at his rented accommodation.
The woman said she befriended him during party’s event in the area. When Chaudhary was called for questioning, he claimed that he had married the woman a few months ago and he had a proof of their marriage ceremony.
The AAP’s media coordinator Vandana Singh told The Pioneer that the woman has levelled false charges on Chaudhary.
“Chaudhary had married to woman a few months ago and he has photographs of their marriage. I don’t know why she is now leveling the false charges against Chaudhary, who is our party volunteer,” said Singh.
