"After the Emergency in 1977 BJP and three other parties merged and formed new party called Janata Party. When the difference of opinion was seen in Janata Party on nationalism, the first session of BJP was held in Ferozshah Kotla ground in which many big leaders of Jansangh participated.," said Malhotra. Notably, the election symbol of Jansagh was Deepak and when BJP was formed, its symbol became Kamal and senior BJP leader Lal Krishan Advani framed the Panch Nishthayein for the Party.
