A 60-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death with fists by four persons, including a juvenile, over distribution of water from a Delhi Jal Board tanker in Northwest Delhi’s Wazirpur Industrial area on Saturday afternoon.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as lal Bahadur. Senior police official of the Northwest district confirmed that all the four accused have been arrested. Ironically, no one in the neighbourhood came to save the elderly man, claimed the family members of the victim.

In the backdrop of shortage of water in the area, a water tanker reached there, following which a minor scuffle took place between lal Bahadur's son Rohit and one Sunny over distribution of water from the water tanker.

The altercation escalated when three men and a juvenile came in support of Sunny and started slapping lal Bahadur and shoved him down on the ground. Family members of lal Bahadur alleged that no local came forward to save lal Bahadur.

On hearing the commotion, large number of people came out of their homes.

However, no one came forward to help the elderly man.

"All the neighbors stood as mute spectators while my uncle was being thrashed to death by those men," said a relative of lal Bahadur. Confirming the incident, Aslam Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) said, "We received a PCR call at around 3:30pm about the death of one lal Bahadur. Upon enquiry, it was revealed that a quarrel took place between Rohit, lal Bahadur's son and Sunny over distributuion of water from the water tanker,"

Khan further said, "Deceased lal Bahadur tried to pacify the quarrel between the neighbours and his family but four accused started beating lal Bahadur with fists and blows due to which lal Bahadur collapsed and was taken to a hospital where he was declared brought dead," Police said that the accused have been identified as Sunil (26), Akash (23), Arvind and a juvenile.

While Sunil works as a driver at a transport company, Akash works as a driver in a different company.

Arvind, on the other hand, works as a labourer. All the accused are residents of the Wazirpur Industrial area.
