Staff Reporter

The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested five Bangladeshis — allegedly operating a gang indulged in robbery and theft — after a shootout with Crime Branch officers in Taimoor Nagar area of national Capital. The shootout happened between 12:15 am and 12:30 am on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.

The accused are identified as Kabir, Farooq, Zakir, Indadul and Aslam all residents of Bangladesh.

According to Rajiv Ranjan, Additional Commissioner of Police, crime branch, they had received a tip off that the Bangladeshi gang members were in the area to look for a house where they could commit robbery, following which a team rushed to the spot and asked them to surrender but they fired at the police team.  "The police personnel fired in retaliation. Two gang members sustained bullet injuries in their leg and are currently hospitalised. We managed to arrest five members of this gang. We have seized three pistols, five live cartridges and house-breaking instruments from their possession," said the Additional CP.

"Initial investigation suggests that the Bangladeshi gang has been involved in committing robbery across Bangalore, Delhi and Kota. Police have managed to link some incidents connected in these cities to the gang. The gang members even resorted to committing rape and killing when they find an opportunity. They were also found involved in the incident of attack on police officer of the Preet Vihar police station," said the Additional CP.

"We have registered a case and all are arrested. So far four cases of robbery, burglaries and firing upon police officer has been worked out and more cases are to be cracked during investigation," the Additional CP added. Meanwhile, Delhi BJP unit president Manoj Tiwari said Kejriwal's Party is protecting Bangladeshi and Rohingya citizens in Delhi. Delhi BJP wants to recognise all these non citizens by introducing NRC in Delhi and send them to their own nations.
