Delhi Government’s Revenue department on Saturday conducted second massive traffic enforcement drive at more than 100 locations across the Capital and challaned 295 vehicles for permit conditions violation. By the end of the day, more than 3,000 vehicles of various categories were inspected and around 851 notices were issued to them for violation of permit conditions.

The drive was aimed at checking violation of permit conditions by commercial vehicles where maximum numbers of challans (113) were issued in West district followed by 73 challans in South East Delhi and 44 in New Delhi. least challans (20) were issued in South-East Delhi. To implement the drive, teams headed by SDMs or Executive Magistrates were supervised by District Magistrates and were further assisted by officials of Transport Department and the Delhi Police. They spent the entire day on field to put vehicles to notice for permit violations. Many Civil Defence volunteers also assisted the SDMs.

The drive was conducted following the Transport Department delegating powers of suspension of permits of commercial vehicles for violations under Motor Vehicles Act section 66/192 to Magistrates of the Revenue Department recently. The very first drive was conducted on November 21 in which 660 vehicles had been put on notice. Since then, final orders have been passed on many of these cases and a number of permits have been suspended and vehicles were impounded.
