P Chidambaram did nothing for 10 years

This Budget will be the best one since NDA came to power. We don’t need Rajya Sabha to approve a finance Bill as this is the power lok Sabha has and this has to be done as a mandatory requirement.

How come all the Western powers and European Union are talking about reforms and are predicting good progress in India, while our own people are putting us downIJ P Chidambaram thinks Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not doing a good job, promises have not been fulfilled and economy will fail. This man, who did nothing for 10 long years and permitted so many scams, wants to be an economist and an astrologer too! let us subject him to a serious CBI inquiry with regard to the Ishrat Jahan case.— Rangaesh Gadasalli

Do we really need so many changesIJ

In response to Rinku Ghosh’s ‘Peeled through the lens’ published on February 7:

Great read. Yes our dress code, festivities, and food we eat are changing. That’s really sad. We really do not need these changes. like in West Bengal, during my school days in the 80s, I saw girls from Government schools wearing saris with two braids and riding cycles to schools. Why that picture is no more to be seenIJ Why more and more cake shops in place of halwaisIJ Can’t see much logic. — Piya

Over 100 million people depend on homeopathy

In response to Madan lall Manchanda’s ‘Homeopathy: A reality check’ published on February 21:

One negative comment in a country full of homeopath-scientists doesn’t convince me somehow. It’s amazing that sceptics will use the word ‘anecdotal’ when it comes to millions using homeopathy, yet they parade one person out to say it doesn’t work, and suddenly we are to believe him, not everyone else. I don’t think so! — Brianbf

Homeopathy is the second most used system of medicine in the world today, with more than 550 million satisfied patients. It is also the fastest growing medicine with annual rates of increased usage between 10 and 30 per cent in countries around the world. It has achieved this usage because it’s safe, effective (often curative when conventional treatments fail) and inexpensive. The US National Cancer Institute does not easily give a positive evaluation, but it gave one to the Banerji Protocols. It also appointed Isis Mikhail, MD, to the board of the Banerji Protocols International Collaborative Research Consortium. Also sitting on the board are Subrata Sen of the world renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas University, US, Elena ladas of the Pediatric Oncology Department, Columbia University, US, and Joyce Frye of Maryland Medical Systems, US. I doubt that homeopathy would be used by millions of people around the world for more than 200 years if it did not work. I also doubt that the institutions and people that support its approach to cancer by sitting on the board of the consortium would do that if they believed it did not work.— Christine Jahnig

Our family doctor in the little village outside Munich where I grew up was a homeopath. My mother swore by him. As a kid, I was treated homeopathically. So this kind of medicine just came to me naturally. Even during my studies, I pursued other things like massage therapy and acupuncture. As a young doctor, I had an appointment in a homeopathic hospital and I was very impressed with its success rate. My boss told me that much of this success came from discontinuing mainstream medication. This made a big impression on me.” — Edzard Ernst.— Sandra Courtney

In Venkatraman Ramakrishnan’s homeland of India, 100 million people depend on homeopathy for treatment of everything from dengue and tuberculosis to kidney and heart disease. Around 270 thousand homeopathic physicians serve the people. I’m sure they would all be surprised to learn that they have been using placebo all these years! Venkatraman has never taken a homeopathic remedy in his life, yet he feels wiser than physicians who have spent 40 years practising this method. This shows a kind of arrogance.— Alan Schmukler

Nobel laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan said, “Nobody in chemistry believes in homeopathy.” Perhaps Dr Ramakrishnan should do a bit more reading as in the articles by Dr lionel Milgrom, PhD chemist and a homeopathist. Start with ‘Beware Scientism’s Onward March’.— James Pannozzi
