‘I am greedy for meaty roles’
How has your journey in Bollywood beenIJ
I believe in fate and destiny. luck matters a lot in this industry, along with people’s talent and hardwork. It is important to have luck by your side to keep you on the right path. And, I think I have been very lucky to have done some plumb roles in both television and films.
What is the most challenging part of your professionIJ
I want to give my best in everything I can lay my hands on. So that is the biggest challenge. I believe in giving myself competition. Also, keeping the audience excited and wanting for more is a very tough ask. As an actor, I have been fortunate to get a lot of opportunities to experiment with various roles. I’m only seven films old in this industry and I have become more greedy for meaty roles. I want to keep surprising my fans and entertaining them.
Tell us about your work experience with Bollywood actors and directors.
Farhan Akthar was my first co-star when I debut in Bollywood with Rock On. He will always be very special to me. Be it his good sense of humour and wit or the fact that he is a multi-talented person, he is an ideal co-star to have. Farhan is a person who will be liked by all.
Abhishek Bachchan is a powerhouse of energy who is constantly up to something. He is a great actor too. Ekta Kapoor is an inspiration to every woman. She has not only launched many newcomers, especially women, but also talks about society through her work on the small screen. Working with her in Once Upon A Time In Mumbai was a wonderful experience.
Rohit Shetty is a tough task master, very clear about his goals. He is a visionary who knows every pulse of the actor who works with him as also what his audience would like. Sanjay Dutt is a phenomenal actor. His work speaks louder than him. Everybody looks up to him though he has gone through a lot of ups and downs. He is a true fighter.
Any genre you would like to explore nextIJ
I would love to be a part of an out-and-out romantic film. I have done romcoms and some serious roles but I want to try myself out as a romantic heroine.
Upcoming director or actor you want to work nextIJ
I would love to work with Farhan Akthar again. I’m hoping they will approach me for Rock On 2.
Have you settled down in the industry nowIJ
I don’t think any actor ever feels settled down in Bollywood. Everyone is always stretching a little further and working that much harder to keep the audience entertained and keeping his/her position as an actor intact.
Tell us about your future projects.
I am doing Vikram Bhatt’s 1920 (third sequel). It might be a horror film, but as stereotypes go, I won’t be wearing white, weird eye-lenses or scary looks. We will be shooting most part of the film in london.
