‘I would love to be a part of a rom-com’

SUPRIYA RAMESH

Shivam bhaargava, who is known for Ghost, The Trip and It’s complicated, speaks with SUPRIYA RAMESH about his latest song, why he chose acting and upcoming work

Tell us about your latest song Prem Deepak.

The song is an out and out romantic number, sung by Amey Date, written by Deepak Jeswal and music by Arnab Chatterjee. The video is directed by Ajinkya Deshmukh and features Pallavi Singh and me.

It is about a man’s feelings towards his beloved. Prem Deepak is a commitment from a boy to his beloved to be there forever. He promises her that she will always have a place in his heart, that he could give his life for her, and that their Prem Deepak or their lamp of love will continue to burn bright and beautiful forever.

There are little moments in the song that are cute and endearing, as it depicts the growing relationship, but there is one big twist in it, which I cannot disclose now. You will have to see the song to realise it. That moment, when the boy finds out a secret, is a small touching scene, and I loved expressing the emotions there.

How did acting happen to you?

I've been passionate about acting since I was a child. Like any child, there were many things I wanted to be, an army man, a scientist, an archaeologist, and I realised if I became an actor I could live many lives in one.

Your career started as an assistant casting director. What were the challenges you faced?

Being an outsider, when I came to Mumbai to act, I had no idea how to go about it, where to go or whom to meet. So assisting, to begin with, gave me time to understand the industry a bit and gain some confidence to start acting myself.

How have OTT platforms brought a transition in the world of movies and Bollywood? Which one do you prefer and why?

I think OTT platforms have made the consumption of movies and shows way easier, as easy as just turning on your smartphone. There are a plethora of platforms available now and all kinds of content. It gives a lot of freedom to storytellers while telling their stories, which was not the case with movies. I wouldn't say I prefer anyone over the other but we're in a time where I'd be very happy to be a part of a good project, be it for cinema or OTT.

Which is your favourite genre or a role that you would love to take any time?

I thoroughly enjoy comedy. I think I'd love to be a part of a rom-com or an out and out action film!

What are your upcoming projects?

I have completed a few projects that are yet to be announced, but one that is announced is Cold Messy Lonely, which should be out on MX player and Alt Balaji in a few months.
