AFP

leg spinner Yasir Shah grabbed a career-best four wickets as Pakistan thrashed Sri lanka by 135 runs in their third ODI on Sunday.

Batting first after winning the toss, Pakistan made 316 in 50 overs. In reply, Sri lanka was dismissed for 181 in the 42nd over. Pakistan now has a 2-1 lead in the series, with two matches to be played.

Shah completed his 10 overs with four for 29, backing up good contributions from Pakistan’s top and middle order with the bat — including half-centuries from Sarfraz Ahmed and Mohammad Hafeez.

Shah’s figures in his eighth one-day game surpassed his previous best of 2-40 against Zimbabwe last May.

left-arm spinner Imad Wasim, who made his debut for Pakistan, and seam bowler Anwar Ali took two wickets each.

Brief Scores

Pakistan: 316/4 (Sarfraz 77, Hafeez 54, Azhar Ali 49; Pathirana 1/49) beat Sri lanka: 181(Thirimanne 56; Yasir Shah 4/29) by 135 runs.

Riot at Premadasa

Rioting crowds forced cricketers to retreat to their dressing rooms as projectiles reached the outer field of the Premadasa Stadium. Police deployed anti-riot squads to clear two blocks of stands near the scoreboard as rival groups of spectators clashed, pelting stones into the grounds from outside the stadium after they were forced out during Sri lanka's run chase in the day-night match.

No players were hurt, and the match resumed after a nearly 20 minute delay.
