Out of three boxers who qualified for the semifinals on Sunday, two are mothers. Sarita, who had a caesarean surgery last year, returned to boxing only three months back after a maternity break of about two years. Mary has three sons and her youngest son was born last year only.
“I am very happy that out of three boxers, two are mothers and both of them are in semifinals,” Sarita, 2014 CWG silver medalist, said blushing ear to ear.
However, she was sad that she wasn’t able to spend time with her new-born baby due to regular competitions and training camps. Her sister-in-law is taking care of her son. “He doesn’t even recognize me. He knows me but thinks that my bhabhi is her mother because he lives with her,” Sarita said promising to win his son back with a gold medal!
Sarita is two-time world champion and has been dominating Asian boxing circuit for over 14 years now. She has five Asian Championship titles but Asian Games gold is what is missing from her cabinet and she aims to get it this time.
“My aim is to win gold. If I can become a champ here, I will be six-time champion is Asian competitions,” the ever-giggling boxer from Manipur said.
