Team-effort would ensure win: Smith

Come Friday and one of Rajasthan Royals or Mumbai Indians will make it to the final of the 2013 IPl.

Both teams have beaten each other once (both at their respective homes) during the league stage but the Qualifier 2 will be played on a neutral venue at the Eden Gardens.

“All of us face the same thing because all of us want get into the final. It will be pressure for them (Rajasthan) too because they have to beat us to get there. We have beaten them once and they have beaten us once. It comes as any other match, our job is to go out there and perform. And I am sure we can fight it out and do our best,” Mumbai Indians opener Dwayne Smith said on Thursday at the pre-match press conference.

He also pointed out that in order to win the game, a team effort rather than an individual one would be required.

“Everyone will have a serious role tomorrow. You can’t single out anyone because if one makes scores 50 and rest do not make even 10, what is going to happen then. Everyone has to put in some work, score runs and deliver good bowling performances,” the right handed West Indian added.

On losing to CSK in the first Qualifier and missing the services of Sachin Tendulkar as the experienced opener in a big run-chase, Smith said it is more about the ones on the field. “Cricket is a funny game because you can’t say that you missed anyone because they were not playing in the game. We had 11 there and I am sure we could have got there but we stumbled a bit,” he explained.
