In the third match of the Hockey India league-2 (HIl-2) played at Ranchi, the home team Ranchi Rhinos were held to a draw by Mumbai Magicians 1-1 on Tuesday. This was the first time that the two teams met this season.

In the tightly-contested tie, it took 52 minutes to see the first goal of the match when South African dragflicker Justin Reid-Ross converted a penalty corner to help Ranchi take 1-0 lead.

But Mumbai equalised six minutes later. While taking their third penalty corner in the last quarter, Australian Trent Mitton, who plays as a — midfielder — converted in the 58th minute.

English star Ashley Jackson could be blamed for the tie as he missed a penalty stroke and three penalty corners whereas, Gurjinder Singh of Mumbai also missed out on a couple of penalty corners.

For his brilliant performance, Mumbai’s Irish custodian David Harte was awarded the man-of-the match award. Rhinos will play their next match here against Kalinga lancers on Friday.
