Rain, storm lash Capital; hit power supply

PNS

Rain with thunder squall hit the State Capital on Tuesday afternoon, resulting into uprooting of several

trees and power crisis subsequently.

“Thunder squall with maximum surface wind 60 Kmph was recorded on Monday. Hailstones and rainfall upto 11.3 mm was recorded by the observatory department. Chances of heavy rainfall are less but light rain at regular interval will provide relief to people in coming days too,” said Forecast officer of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi observatory, Upendra Srivastava.

According to sources, tempest uprooted trees at Kadra, AG colony, Station road (Chutia) and HEC, blocking roads and snapping powers for several hours.

The IMD, Ranchi, has issued warning for next three days of rainfall and thunderstorms in isolated places of Jharkhand. The thunderstorm will influence the north eastern part of the State severely. However, temperature is likely to remain pleasant in the coming days.

There is a strong possibility of rainfall with thunderstorms in the north-eastern districts like Garhwa, Giridih, Pakur, Deoghar, Palamu, including isolated belts of the State. But the weather will remain dry for another few weeks. The weather bulletin released by Ranchi observatory centre of the IMD on Monday predicted an average fall of five degree Celsius in temperature across the State.

However, the MET expert has denied the chances of early monsoon. In the next few days, most parts of the state will witness thunderstorm and rainfall, bringing relief from sweltering heat.

“East and west trotline passing through Punjab and Gangetic West Bengal is

intersecting Jharkhand, which has influenced the present weather. On May 24, denizens of the state capital may get relief from the heat, as there are strong chances of rainfall with thunderstorm. Moreover, north-eastern Jharkhand will witness heavy rainfall due to the influence

of moisturecontent in atmosphere,” added Srivastava.

Severe rise in temperature earlier in the month of April and May had triggered a problem of water crisis across the state, including the state capital as the ground water level has been severely affected.

The spooling summer was keeping the residents indoor keeping the busiest streets of the city hushed, especially during afternoon.

The drizzles at regular interval have not only alleviated the rising temperature but have also brought relief from water

crisis to an extent at few places.
