PCB targets former West Indies women’s coach to improve Pakistan team’s performance

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is targeting former West Indies women’s team head coach Shane Deitz to help improve the performances of its national women’s team.

A well-informed source in the board said Deitz had stepped down as the head coach of the West Indies women’s team after completing a three-year assignment that expired on October 31.

“The PCB has got some very good feedback about Deitz’s work with the West Indies team and in women’s cricket,” the source said.

He said the PCB was keen on signing a two-to-three-year contract with Deitz so that he could prepare the team for the 2028 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by Pakistan. The PCB has already decided to replace former Test fast bowler Wahab Riaz, who has been working as a mentor with the women’s team since last year, with no notable success recorded during his tenure.

The PCB has attached former Test players Imran Farhat, Abdul Rehman and another cricketer, Umaid Asif, as coaches with the women’s team since last year.

The PCB wants Deitz, a 51-year-old Australian, to take charge of the women’s team before they play a series in the Caribbean sometime in December, with the schedule yet to be announced.

Cricket West Indies appointed former men’s team head coach Andre Coley as the interim head coach of the women’s team.
