Hyderabad: Indian para-athlete Neeraj Yadav, who won three gold medals at the Asian Para Games, has allegedly died by suicide after consuming poison at his residence. His body was at a Delhi hospital, where a postmortem examination was underway on Wednesday.

S Satyanarayana, head coach of India's para-athletics team, confirmed the death. He said he had received information about Yadav's death but did not provide further details about the circumstances.

Yadav, 42, competed in the F55 category and had reportedly been under emotional stress after missing the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya earlier this month because of a doping suspension. However, the reason behind his death has not been established.

Satyanarayana said he could not determine what led to the incident. Reflecting on the pressures faced by athletes, he said competitors must learn to deal with both success and setbacks.
