PTI

Pacers Sumit Narwal and Pradeep Sangwan wreaked havoc to bowl out Saurashtra for 92 before Delhi took a 102-run lead on day one of their final league match in the Ranji Trophy here on Wednesday.

Delhi made optimum use of fielding first by dismissing Saurashtra in 33.2 overs before Rishabh Pant smashed 40 off 28 balls to help his team reach 194 for eight at close of play. The other significant contribution from the bat came from Manan Sharma, who made 33 off 65 balls.

However, Delhi's high-profile top-order failed to fire again with Shikhar Dhawan (16), captain Gautam Gambhir (16) and Unmukt Chand (10) falling cheaply to leave the team at 57 for four.

Dhawan, , hit three fours in his 21-ball stay in the middle.Gambhir, who was released from India's squad for the ongoing England series, too did not last long while Chand suffered his fourth failure in as many innings.

Bengal avoid collapse

New Delhi: Abhimanyu Easwaran dropped anchor at one end as his 97-run stand with Shreevats Goswami enabled Bengal to reach 185 for four against Madhya Pradesh on the first day of their final group league encounter of the Ranji Trophy, here.

With the match against Gujarat being cancelled, Bengal's chances of qualifying for knock out stage are very slim and the motivation has taken a dent.

It was Easwaran' s unbeaten 68 with 8 boundaries and Shreevats' stroke-filled 52 with eight hits to the fence that helped Bengal carry out a damage control act after being reduced to 88 for 4 on a day when only 60 overs were possible due to foggy weather.

Rajasthan surrender

Greater Noida: Vidarbha bowlers produced a clinical display to bowl Rajasthan out for a paltry 140 on the opening day of their Group B Ranji Trophy cricket match here on Wednesday. Put into bat, Rajasthan could last just 41.1 overs in their first innings to hand Vidarbha the early advantage in the match. left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate was the most successful Vidarbha bowler with figures of 3 for 22. Pacers Shrikant Wagh, Rajneesh Gurbani and lalit Yadav took two wickets apiece while off-spinner Akshay Wakhare got one.
