Delhi finally break home jinx with resounding win

Delhi Waveriders’ home misery finally ended after they came away with a comfortable 7-4 victory over defending champions Ranchi Rays here on Thursday.

Mandeep Singh and Talvinder Singh were the stars of the day for the hosts as their double strikes were vital in Waveriders ending their three match losing streak at home.

Delhi started the game on front foot and their positive start paid off. Mandeep got on the end of a Justin Reid-Ross's pass on seventh minute to make it 2-0 for the hosts.

Just five minutes, later the home side increased their advantage. From a penalty corner, Talvinder made no errors in converting it to give the home team a comfortable 3-0 lead.

On either side of their second strike, Delhi needed their shot stopper  Devon Manchester  to be at his full best and he did just that by making two incredible saves to keep the score at 3-0.

The second quarter was no different as the hosts kept on pressing hard and struck for the third time in the 19th minute with yet another field goal through Talvinder gave the hosts a massive 5-0 lead.

But, yet again, Delhi needed Manchester's help as Ranchi pressed hard at the end of first half to have three consecutive penalty corners just moments before the break. The keeper lived up to the expectation to maintain the hosts lead.

Ranchi eventually found a way back into the game and who other than their captain fantastic  Ashley Jackson  to do it for the defending champions. Jackson scored through a field goal after collecting a pass from Barry Middleton to make it 5-2 on 35 minutes.

However, Mandeep put the result beyond doubt for the home team with yet another field goal to make it 7-2 on 42nd minute.

Ranchi did reduce the deficit in the 50th minute through a field goal from Trent Mitton to make it 7-4. But, Delhi held their nerves in the closing stages to end their four game losing streak.

With this win Waveriders move to the fifth place in the table with 22 points from nine games, while Ranchi Rays still lead the tally with 27 points.
