After all the 28 lots were picked, all teams were left with a few players to buy which led to confusion over the next step despite such a scenario being addressed at a meeting of all the teams. To make matters worse for Hockey India and mostly for president Narinder Batra, this problem solving was happening live on Doordarshan and YouTube who were airing the auction. At this juncture, Batra discussed the issue at hand with teams thereby getting into a heated debate with the officials including asking Hockey India CEO Elena Norman to step away and angrily asking the organisers to pass on the microphone to the team officials.
To further the mystery, teams were to put in their requests for unsold players for the remaining players which was expected to take 15 minutes but took nearly an hour. However, team officials later brushed this delay as normal in such cases.
