Not many players get to make their international debut in the World Cup but Jasjit Singh Khullar is one such lucky guy who got his maiden call-up for the national team that is going to participate in the FIH WC to be held in The Hague from May 31.
Having found his name in the Indian squad, Khullar is over the moon as both of his dreams of wearing Indian jersey and playing in the World Cup are about to come true.
Talking to The Pioneer, Khullar said that the hard work that he has put in the last couple of months has paid off. “This is the biggest day of my life. I am thrilled to get into the national team for a tournament like World Cup. It’s a proud moment for me,” Khullar, who plays for Uttar Pradesh Wizards in the Hockey India league as a defender, said.
“The past couple of months have been great in terms of improvement in my game. I have worked hard with good guidance from coaches, especially Terry Walsh. I have not had trained as much in my life as much I trained in the last two months at the national camp here (at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium). The realisation of my hard work turning into success, gives me a lot of satisfaction,” Khullar, who comes from a family of physicians in Jhalandhar, added.
Talking about his selection, Khullar said, “I wouldn’t say that I was confident of my selection but I had an inkling that I can be a part of the team because of the good feedback from the coaches.” Khullar, a Railways employee, has never been a part of any age-group national team in the past and never enrolled himself into any academy.
