Bayern need draw to progress

AP

With the public still jittery after the Paris attacks and the security alert in Belgium, misbehaving fans are the last thing any football club would want right now.

Despite tighter security, Bayern Munich fans made the headlines after getting involved in brawls in Gelsenkirchen at the Bundesliga match against Schalke.

Next up for Bayern is Tuesday's Champions league home match against Olympiakos. So Munich police will also have to be on the lookout for troublemakers from both rowdy fans.

Arsenal hosts Dinamo Zagreb in the other match, with each team needing to win to remain in contention and help from either Bayern or Olympiakos.

An Arsenal victory coupled with an Olympiakos defeat at Bayern would give the london club a chance of finishing second. Arsenal visits Olympiakos in the final group match. Dinamo needs to win and hope Bayern loses to keep alive its slim hopes of sneaking into second place — it would then have to beat Bayern by more than five goals.

A lengthy injury list is nothing new for Arsenal. Usually Arsenal drags itself through the Champions league group stage with little trouble. Not this season. Not with midfield shortages more acute than ever for Arsene Wenger's team.

Chelsea take on Maccabi

lONDON: Chelsea can qualify for the knockout phase with victory in Israel if leader Porto beats Dynamo Kiev.

If one player epitomizes Chelsea's slump it's surely Eden Hazard.

The playmaker was feted as the Premier league's finest talent as last season ended with Chelsea winning the title and England's top two individual awards were presented to the 24-year-old Belgian.

As Chelsea has struggled since August — starting its title defense by collecting 14 points from a possible 39 and sitting second in Champions league Group G — so has Hazard. May be it is time for Hazard to step and save his team’s blushes.

Elsewhere, still savoring its memorable win against Real Madrid, Barcelona returns home to face Roma with a chance to reach the knockout stage.

Barcelona needs only a draw to guarantee first place in Group E with one round yet to be played.Third-place Bayer leverkusen plays at BATE Borisov in the other match.
