New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi has been added to India's squad for the first three One-Day Internationals against New Zealand, the BCCI said on Saturday, a day after Prasidh Krishna was ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury.
Nabi, 29, was originally named only for the fourth and fifth ODIs. He will now be part of the squad for the entire five-match series, which begins at Eden Park in Auckland on November 4.
"The Men's Selection Committee has added Auqib Nabi to the squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand. The right-arm pacer, who was initially in the squad for the fourth and fifth ODIs of the series, will be a part of the Indian squad from the start of the ODI series," the BCCI said in a release.
The promotion follows a strong start to the New Zealand tour. Nabi took six wickets in the first unofficial Test between India A and New Zealand A at Lincoln last week, exploiting the conditions on offer, and has been withdrawn from the remaining two games of that series. He also picked up four wickets for Jammu and Kashmir in the Irani Cup against Rest of India before the tour.
He made his ODI debut on September 30 this year against the West Indies in Guwahati, returning figures of 0 for 84 in 8.5 overs.
Prasidh Krishna, who was picked subject to fitness clearance, failed to recover from the hamstring injury he sustained during the home series against the West Indies and is out of the entire ODI leg. He will focus on regaining workload ahead of the Test assignment.
The rest of the squad is unchanged. Shubman Gill leads for the first three matches with Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain; Iyer takes over the captaincy for the last two.
