Arjun Maini’s good performances, chequered flag in race 3 after finishing second in race 2, spiced up the Formula BMW series in the JK Tyre Racing Championship, here on Sunday.
On day two of round three, there was tremendous fight in the the JK Racing India Series as championship leader Vishnu Prasad took a hard-earned victory over the winner of the first race, Arjun by a mere 1.3 seconds.
Mahaveer Rangunathan, who was penalised 30 seconds in the first race for making a jump start, claimed third position a further 6.8 seconds adrift of the race winner. But the championship came alive in race three as 15-year-old Arjun Maini emerged winner and Vishnu could manage third position. Chittesh Mandody, who had retired after lap three in race one yesterday, finished second. The championship winner will be decided in the concluding fourth round, which will also be decided at the BIC in November.
Arjun made a great start going into the first corner, but by the time pack of cars came around to complete the first lap, Prasad, jumped the leader and opened up lead of few car lengths. Behind the race leader, Arjun and Chittesh, who started from sixth position on the grid, managed to slot into third place by the end of the first lap, kept the pressure up on the race leader.
Vishnu looked like having the race under control for nine laps, but on the final lap going into the first corner, he made a small error for which he paid a big price by the time the leading pack reached the third corner.
