lee upsets two-time champion lin

RIO DE JANEIRO:Malaysia's lee Chong Wei beat two-time Olympic champion lin Dan of China on Friday, avenging his last two losses to lin in the Olympic finals and further denting once-powerful China's grip on the sport. Both men are considered by many to be the best players of their era, and maybe of all time, and the semifinal match was often thrilling. lee's reaction at the end — falling to his knees, covering his face with his hands and putting his forehead on the court before leaping up in the air and pumping his fists — made it seem more like a gold medal contest than the semifinals. lee will face a younger Chinese star, Chen long, in the men's finals Saturday. Malaysia and China will also play in the men's doubles gold medal match.

US swimmers quit Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO: US Olympic authorities apologized to Brazil as two US swimmers were allowed to go home having retracted a fabricated story about being mugged in Rio. “We apologize to our hosts in Rio and the people of Brazil for this distracting ordeal in the midst of what should rightly be a celebration of excellence,” US Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun said in a statement. Four US swimmers, including Ryan lochte, have been at the centre of a media storm in Brazil since claiming they were held up at gunpoint in a gas station.
