Inzamam in the running for Pak chief selector post

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board has widened its hunt for a new chief selector by including Inzamam-ul-Haq in the list of contenders after the former captain expressed his interest in the job. A reliable source in the Board confirmed that PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan was in touch with Inzamam and Rashid to discuss the possibility of giving one of them the responsibility of chief selector.

"look nothing is final as yet that is for sure. Shaharyar is presently in the process of talking to likely candidates and Inzamam and Rashid are among them. But it is wrong to say Inzamam has been finalised as chief selector," the source said. He said Inzamam had shown interest in becoming the chief selector but there were two major hurdles in his way — one was that he would have to leave his job as head coach of the Afghanistan team which earns him a monthly salary of $12,000. "Obviously the Board will have to match that amount if it ropes him in. But so far nothing is final and the only thing confirmed is that Inzamam has shown interest in the job," the source said.

PCB hints at interim coach

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board is considering the option of appointing an interim coach for the team's tour of England in July-August as it continues its hunt for a long-term replacement for Waqar Younis. After the Board's Annual General Meeting, PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan told the media in lahore it is continuing to assess potential foreign and local candidates for the position of head coach. "We have not finalised anyone as yet despite speculations in the media," he said.

"We can put in an interim coach for time being so that's not a big issue," he said. Khan's statement created confusion in the cricket circles since the board has given a deadline of April 25 for interested candidates to apply for the position of head coach and interviews of shortlisted candidates are expected in first week of May.

dhoni quits as Amrapali brand ambassador after furore

New Delhi: Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni has resigned as brand ambassador of realty firm Amrapali, days after the unhappy residents of a housing project in Noida launched a social media campaign asking the cricketer to dis-associate himself from the builder. "Dhoni is no longer our brand ambassador... I do not want his image to be affected because of being attached to Amrapali," company Chairman and Managing Director Anil Sharma said. "This decision was taken mutually by Dhoni and us," he added. Dhoni was the brand ambassador of the company for the last 6-7 years. The complaints from the residents of Amrapali's Saphhire project in Noida had gone viral on Twitter over the past few days after they tagged Dhoni in their tweets asking the cricketer to dis-associate himself from the builder or force the company to ensure completion of pending work.

limited-overs doesn't affect Test performance: Jadeja

Rajkot: The purists might be worried about the impact of T20 on players' technique but Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja feels the format has had no effect of the cricketers' skills as they are well-trained to shift gears whenever required. "Players adapt to the situation very quickly and I don't think there would be any negative impact on players because of limited-overs cricket," Jadeja said after his team Gujarat lions' seven-wicket win over Rising Pune Super Giants here. The lions' chased down a competitive 164 with Brendon McCullum (49) and Aaron Finch (50).
