BAI rechristens IBl to PBl

New Delhi: BAI Organising committee has decided to rechristen Indian Badminton league (IBl) as Premier Badminton league (PBl). The league is scheduled to be held from January 2 to 17 next year. “We want to see Premier Badminton league take global stage with more traction from all the stakeholders. We aim to make PBl the most sought after tournament in the world of badminton,” he added. Sporty Solutionz Pvt limited (SSPl), the commercial partners for the first edition of IBl had moved a petition in the Delhi High Court in October, pleading the Court to restrict any other party from using the name, logo, title or any Intellectual Property associated with IBl. Bookies thrown out of BPl

Dhaka:  At least four suspected bookmakers have been thrown out of cricket stadiums during the ongoing scandal-tainted Bangladesh Premier league, in efforts to ensure the tournament is graft free, an official said on Thursday. BPl secretary Ismail Haider Mallick said anti-corruption officials had spotted the four whom they suspected of placing bets on behalf of clients during Twenty20 league matches, which is illegal in Bangladesh. “We don’t have the law to put them behind bars so we opted to throw them out (of the grounds),” Mallick told AFP, without revealing the nationalities of those identified. The BPl, resumed in November after its 2013 edition was blighted by a match-fixing scandal involving players and team owners.

‘Aamir will be given chance’

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board and coach Waqar Younis on Thursday indicated that disgraced left-arm pacer Muhammad Aamir would soon be given a chance to play for the national team again. PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan told  that the Board was considering giving a comeback chance to Aamir, who served a five-year ban for spot-fixing which expired last September. “I think Aamir has done enough with his performances to warrant a place in the Pakistan team and we are considering him,” Khan said. Waqar also played down reports about players not wanting the pacer back in the team.
