AIBA says no to IOA role in bI elections

New Delhi: In a major snub to the IOA, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) has turned down its request to conduct elections to form India’s new federation even as Kishan Narsi resigned from the IOA-appointed ad-hoc committee for the sport after being appointed an observer for the September 11 polls. In a fresh round of churning ahead of the controversy-marred elections in Mumbai, the AIBA has tersely rejected Indian Olympic Association’s request of conducting the elections. “Boxing India elections will move forward with AIBA’s support and we will evaluate the results. If the results are approved by AIBA and the world body recognises Boxing India, then it will govern the sport in India and not the IOA ad-hoc committee or the IOA,” a source said quoting from the letter which AIBA has sent. “But AIBA has told the IOA that they are welcome to send an observer and be satisfied that the process is clean. However, they cannot conduct these polls,” he said.

No clash between 2022 WC & Olympics: IOC

lausanne: The IOC says it has received assurances from FIFA President Sepp Blatter that the 2022 World Cup will not clash with the Winter Olympics. FIFA said Monday that January/February was one of the alternative dates being considered for the World Cup in Qatar, along with November/December. FIFA is considering moving the tournament from the traditional June/July timeframe because of the summer heat in Qatar. Switching the World Cup to January/February would conflict with the Winter Olympics, usually held in February. IOC President Thomas Bach has previously said that Blatter assured him the two events would not clash. IOC spokesman Mark Adams reiterates Tuesday that “it is in the interest of both organizations that there is no clash between our calendars.” Adams says “we have received assurances from President Blatter that this will not be the case.”
